Family Summer Vacation

For many, a twelve hour car ride sounds less than appealing. To be honest,  it is a painful and rough way to start any family vacation. With four kids, bathroom breaks become frequent and whining incessant. Throw in a few “are we there yet’s” and my patience gets tossed out the window. As we near Fripp Island, I can’t help but wonder when I’ll get to stretch my legs and end my headache.

Car rides have been tedious, but definitely memorable over the last few years. Climbing over seats to plug in chargers, constantly passing out food and wearing out the play button on the DVD player have made an impression on my idea of a true family vacation.
Of the time spent at Fripp Island, a few memories stick out. A cocky teenager attempting to jump off the back of the golf cart and falling on his bum, to the amusement of his family. Another child ignoring us at dinner, only to spell his name wrong on the picture he colored. And finally endless trips to the beach battling to find sand dollars. These are the memories we have created, that we will have for the rest of our lives.
Family vacation may be troublesome, and at times irritating, but every moment spent together is cherished. Because, although cliche, family is truly the most important thing in one’s life.
